Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Paro

Arrive at Paro airport, where you'll receive assistance and be transferred to your hotel. Visit the National Museum, housed in an ancient watchtower, showcasing a rich collection of Bhutanese artifacts, including traditional costumes, religious art, and historical relics. Explore Rinphung Dzong, a 17th-century fortress-monastery with impressive courtyards and traditional Bhutanese architecture, serving as the administrative and religious center of Paro. Discover Kichu Lhakhang, a 7th-century temple with a rich history, known for its serene atmosphere and significant cultural value. Continue to Dungtse Lhakhang, notable for its ancient murals depicting Buddhist teachings and local legends. Stroll through Paro town, experiencing its quaint streets lined with traditional wooden houses, shops, and cafes.

Day 2: Paro – Punakha

After breakfast, drive to Dochula Pass (3,050m), where you can enjoy tea and take in the panoramic views of the eastern Himalayan peaks, including Gangkar Puensum, Bhutan’s highest mountain. Descend through diverse vegetation from the alpine to semi-tropical forests, reaching the Punakha and Wangdue valleys. Visit Punakha Dzong, a 17th-century fortress located at the confluence of the Pho and Mo Chu rivers. Admire its intricate woodwork, grand courtyards, and the beautiful frescoes and statues within. Proceed to Khamsum Yuley temple on Nyinzergang hill, a stunning example of traditional Bhutanese architecture offering spectacular views of the surrounding valley and terraced rice fields.

Day 3: Punakha - Thimphu

Visit Richengang village, known for its unique cluster of interconnected houses built in traditional Bhutanese style, offering insight into rural life. Walk to Chimi Lhakhang temple, dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley, known as 'the divine madman.' The temple is famous for its fertility blessings and unique murals depicting the Lama’s colorful tales. Drive back over the scenic Dochula Pass to Thimphu, Bhutan's capital, taking in the lush landscapes and traditional architecture along the way. In the late afternoon, visit Tashicho Dzong, the impressive fortress-monastery housing the government offices and the King’s throne room, and the giant Buddha statue at Kuensel Phodrang ridge, providing panoramic views of Thimphu and the surrounding valleys.

Day 4: Thimphu

Explore Thimphu, starting with the Memorial Chorten, a prominent stupa built in memory of the third King of Bhutan. The stupa is a central place for daily religious practices and offers a peaceful environment for reflection. Visit the Takin Preserve, home to the unique Takin, Bhutan’s national animal, known for its unusual appearance and local folklore. Discover Zilukha Nunnery, a serene monastery providing insights into the lives of Bhutanese nuns and the Buddhist practices they follow. Tour the Traditional Art School, known for preserving traditional Bhutanese arts and crafts, including painting, sculpture, and thangka creation. Explore the Textile Academy and Museum, showcasing Bhutanese weaving traditions, vibrant textiles, and traditional costumes. Day 5: Paro (Takstang Hike)

Drive to Paro and hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), perched on a granite cliff 1,000 feet above the valley floor. The monastery, built in 1692, is one of Bhutan’s most iconic and sacred sites, known for its breathtaking views and religious significance. If the hike is challenging, alternatives such as a pony ride to the first viewpoint and cafeteria can be arranged. However, even reaching the viewpoint offers stunning views of the monastery clinging to the cliff. Return to Paro for more exploration of the town or relax at your hotel. Enjoy a farewell dinner featuring traditional Bhutanese cuisine in the evening.

Day 6: Departure

After breakfast, transfer to Paro airport according to your flight schedule for your departure.
