Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Aurangabad

On arrival at the airport, assistance and transfer to the hotel. Settle in and prepare for a day of exploration. Visit Aurangabad Caves, a collection of 12 Buddhist rock-cut caves dating back to the 6th and 7th centuries. These caves include intricate carvings and sculptures that reflect early Buddhist artistry. Explore Bibi Ka Maqbara, an elegant mausoleum built by Aurangzeb's son in memory of his mother, often compared to the Taj Mahal for its architectural similarity. Its Mughal design is a testament to the era's grandeur. Visit a nearby small archaeological museum showcasing artifacts from ancient India, including sculptures and inscriptions that provide insights into the region's historical and cultural heritage. Overnight at the hotel, with the rest of the evening free to relax.

Day 2: Aurangabad - Ajanja - Aurangabad (210kms round)

Breakfast at the hotel before setting out for Ajanta Caves, a set of 30 rock-cut Buddhist caves that were discovered by British officers in 1819. These caves are renowned for their stunning murals and intricate carvings that depict various episodes of Buddha's life and previous births. Ajanta Caves are divided into two main categories: Hinayana (Theravada) and Mahayana (Mahayana), with five Chaityas (prayer halls) and twenty-five Viharas (monasteries). The frescoes in the caves are celebrated for their artistic quality and historical significance. Return to Aurangabad for the night, enjoying dinner and reflecting on the day's cultural and historical insights.

Day 3: Aurangabad - Mumbai

Breakfast at the hotel, then embark on an excursion to Ellora Caves, an extensive group of 34 rock-cut monasteries and temples representing three major religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Carved between 600 and 1000 AD, Ellora is notable for its monumental sculptures and architectural grandeur. Visit Kailash Cave Temple, the most famous and grand of the Ellora Caves. This single monolithic structure, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is an engineering marvel with its intricate carvings and massive size, replicating a multi-story temple carved out of solid rock. Visit Grishneshwar Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. This ancient temple is renowned for its intricate carvings and sacred significance in Hinduism. On the return journey, explore Daulatabad Fort, a formidable medieval fortress known for its strategic location and impressive defenses, including a unique entrance designed to thwart invaders.
