Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Paro - Transfer to Thimphu (65kms/ 2hrs drive)

Pick-up from Paro airport and transfer to Thimphu. Check in at the hotel. Visit the interesting market in Thimphu. Explore the city by walk. Visit Tashichho Dzong, which houses the throne room and offices of the king, the secretariat, and the ministries of home affairs and finance. The Dzong is a grand fortress that also serves as a monastic and administrative center. Visit Tashi Chhoe Dzong, an impressive Buddhist monastery and fortress. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Thimphu - Punakha/ Wangdue via Dochula pass (70kms / 2hrs drive)

After breakfast, visit the National Memorial Chorten, a stupa built in memory of the third king, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The Chorten is a center for daily worship and offering. Visit Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang), which offers a panoramic view of Thimphu Valley. The massive statue of Buddha Dordenma here is one of the largest in the world. Drive to Punakha/Wangdue, with a stop en route at Dochu La Pass, located at 3,100 meters. The pass offers spectacular views of the Himalayas, especially on clear days. It is also known for its 108 memorial chortens. Continue driving to the warm valley of Punakha. Visit Punakha Dzong, built at the confluence of the Po and Mo Chu Rivers in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. The Dzong is renowned for its stunning architecture and historical significance. Overnight at the hotel in Punakha/Wangdue.

Day 3: Punakha /Wangdue to Paro (Approx 160kms / 4hrs drive)

After breakfast, visit Chhimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley, also known as the "Divine Madman." The temple is a pilgrimage site for couples hoping to have children. Drive to Paro, enjoying the scenic view of Shaba River Point and Paro airport along the way. Check in at the hotel in Paro. Visit Rinpung Dzong, also known as Paro Dzong. The Dzong has a fascinating history and now serves as a monastery and administrative center. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4: Hike to Taktsang

After breakfast, proceed for an excursion to Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger's Nest. The monastery is perched on the side of a cliff about 800 meters above the Paro Valley. It is one of the most important and picturesque sites in Bhutan. The hike to the monastery takes about an hour and a half and offers breathtaking views of the valley below. On the way back into town, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines in Bhutan. The temple is said to have been built in the 7th century by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo. In the evening, stroll through Paro town and explore some local handicraft stores. Return to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Paro – Departure

After breakfast, transfer to Paro airport for your flight to your onward destination.
