Overview
Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, is an island country in South Asia. It lies in the Indian Ocean, southwest of the Bay of Bengal, and southeast of the Arabian Sea. Sri Lanka is said to be the only country in the world where you can see the world's largest land mammal, the elephant, and the largest marine mammal, the blue whale, in a single day. Because of its unique shape and position to the south of India, Sri Lanka is known as the 'Teardrop of India'.
