Overview

Bhutan is a landlocked country in the Eastern Himalayas, located between China and India. Bhutan the Land of the Thunder Dragon, Buddhist kingdom on the Himalayas’ is known for its monasteries, fortresses and dramatic landscapes that range from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. In the High Himalayas, peaks such as 7,326m Jomolhari are popular trekking destinations. Paro Taktsang monastery (also known as Tiger’s Nest) clings to cliffs above the forested Paro Valley. The subalpine Himalayan mountains in the north rise from the country's lush subtropical plains in the south.
