Explore the Elephanta Caves, where the main cave, known as the Shiva Cave, features intricate carvings of Lord Shiva, including the grand Trimurti sculpture, depicting the three aspects of Shiva. The outer caves were used for Hindu worship, while the inner caves contain Buddhist relics. Shrines dedicated to Shiva’s sons, Kartikeya and Ganesh, are also notable.
Return to the Gateway of India, a monumental archway built to welcome King George V and Queen Mary in 1911. Adjacent to the Gateway is The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, an iconic structure commissioned by Jamshedji Tata and opened in 1903, showcasing colonial architecture and luxury.
Visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus), a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its Gothic Revival architecture. Nearby, explore Mumbai University, the Rajabai Clock Tower—often called the Big Ben of India—and the Oval Maidan, a historic cricket ground.
See the Bombay High Court, a grand British-era building known for its architectural elegance. Continue to Dhobi Ghat, Asia’s largest open-air laundry, where clothes are washed in public view. Visit Mani Bhavan, the historical residence of Mahatma Gandhi in Mumbai, which now serves as a museum and research center.
Explore the Jain Temple, a serene religious site known for its intricate carvings and peaceful ambiance. Visit Banganga Tank, an ancient water tank with sacred significance, and enjoy the green spaces of Kamala Nehru Park and Hanging Gardens, offering panoramic views of the city and the Arabian Sea.
Drive along Marine Drive, famously known as the Queen’s Necklace due to its glowing streetlights resembling a necklace. See the Telegraph Office, India Post Office Building, Kala Ghoda area, David Sassoon Library, and the National Gallery of Modern Art.
